Iran Starts a Pilot to ID Emergency Fuel Cards at 54 Tehran Stations

A pilot to attach identity data to emergency fuel cards, aimed at making fuel distribution smarter, has begun at 54 selected filling stations in Tehran.

RoydadNaft –  A pilot to attach identity data to emergency fuel cards, aimed at making fuel distribution smarter, has begun at 54 selected filling stations in Tehran.

According to Roydad Naft, citing the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, 40% of fueling in the country is now done with emergency cards kept at the stations.

The ID plan is meant to make fueling easier, shorten lines, reduce station operators’ gatekeeping role, raise transparency of identity and location data, improve demand management, and limit diversion of fuel.

Under the new process, a customer can put a personal bank card in the POS terminal and, after identity verification, fuel without an intermediary and more quickly.

NIOPDC thanked the public for patience during this stage and said the steps are intended to raise service quality and protect national assets. Problems in the pilot will be fixed gradually, the company said.
