Groundwork Laid for Construction of Iran’s Ardabil Petrochemical Complex

The groundwork and infrastructure have been put in place for the construction of a modern, low-emission, export-oriented petrochemical complex in Iran’s Ardabil Province, with the participation of several major investment holding companies, according to the province’s deputy governor for economic affairs.

RoydadNaft –   The groundwork and infrastructure have been put in place for the construction of a modern, low-emission, export-oriented petrochemical complex in Iran’s Ardabil Province, with the participation of several major investment holding companies, according to the province’s deputy governor for economic affairs.

According to Roydad Naft, Behrouz Khalili said on Tuesday at a coordination meeting on the implementation of the project that, following efforts by the governor of Ardabil and support from the province’s representatives in the Iranian Parliament, the conditions have been created to implement the project using advanced technologies, with the aim of producing high-value-added products.

He added that the complex will be developed as an environmentally friendly, green and model project in Ardabil Province. Its operations will use industrial wastewater and comply with the latest environmental standards, allowing the project to create new industrial capacity while minimizing its impact on the region’s natural resources.

The deputy governor of Ardabil for economic affairs said that one of the most advanced wastewater treatment plants will be built to supply the complex’s water needs, along with power substations and a renewable power plant. Total investment in the petrochemical complex is estimated at more than $800 million.

The first petrochemical complex in Ardabil was established in 2006 on a 53-hectare site, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 metric tons. The project was designed to produce ammonia, olefins from methanol, and polypropylene and polyethylene, but it was left incomplete due to a number of challenges.

Ardabil Province, with a population of more than 1.28 million and 12 counties, is located in northwestern Iran, with Ardabil as its capital. The province borders Gilan, Zanjan and East Azerbaijan provinces, as well as the Republic of Azerbaijan.
