$91.6 Billion Invested in Iran’s Petrochemical Industry

The chief executive of the National Petrochemical Company put investment in the petrochemical industry through the end of the Iranian year 1404 (March 20, 2026) at $91.6 billion.

RoydadNaft –  The chief executive of the National Petrochemical Company put investment in the petrochemical industry through the end of the Iranian year 1404 (March 20, 2026) at $91.6 billion.

According to Roydad Naft, Omid Shakeri spoke at a meeting of the acting oil minister with the National Petrochemical Company chief executive and senior managers at the company. The goals of the Seventh Development Plan focus on developing the value chain of petrochemical products, he said. In the year 1404 (March 21, 2025–March 20, 2026), with installed capacity of more than 101 million tons a year, the industry produced more than 75 million tons of products.

The value of products produced in the year 1404 was more than $22 billion. Of that, $12 billion was exported and more than $10 billion was sold domestically.

A major role in preventing raw-material sales

The industry has attracted substantial capital. $91.6 billion was invested through the end of the year 1404, playing a large role in preventing raw-material sales and bringing in foreign currency, Shakeri said.

The petrochemical industry’s share of the country’s gas consumption did not reach 10% in the year 1404, yet it created $22 billion in value added.

Given winter limits on feedstock, the industry must enter upstream development to survive and secure stable feedstock, as it is already pursuing many projects to gather associated gas, he said.

About 15 million tons of capacity to be added by the end of the Seventh Plan

Installed petrochemical capacity is planned to reach about 111 million tons a year under the Seventh Development Plan, so from the start of the plan about 15 million tons is added to the industry’s capacity.

Counting only one tier, the industry in the year 1403 (March 21, 2024–March 20, 2025) created jobs for 148,000 people directly and 1,215,000 indirectly, Shakeri said.

Petrochemical companies spent close to 2 trillion tomans on social responsibility in the year 1403. On the president’s order, all of the industry’s social-responsibility credits this year are being spent on developing electronic education in schools.

Crisis management in the industry during the 12- and 40-day imposed war was sound. Reconstruction of damaged facilities is proceeding properly, and 60% of the lost capacity has now returned to production.
