Lavan Oil Refinery in Iran Says Staff Readiness Prevented Deaths in the Third Imposed War

The HSED manager of Lavan Oil Refining Company said continuous training, emergency drills, and ready firefighting equipment were decisive, and that staff readiness and coordination among units helped manage the incident and prevent loss of life.

RoydadNaft –  The HSED manager of Lavan Oil Refining Company said continuous training, emergency drills, and ready firefighting equipment were decisive, and that staff readiness and coordination among units helped manage the incident and prevent loss of life.

According to Roydad Naft, Iraj Gashmardi said part of the refinery’s facilities was damaged in the third imposed war. Human readiness, firefighting equipment, and regular emergency drills and exercises played an effective role in managing the incident and avoiding deaths.

He called the incident one of the hardest and most bitter experiences of his career. The most hopeful point, he said, was that there were no fatalities.

After the incident, firefighting, operations, maintenance, human resources, security, and other units stayed on site without a break, around the clock, working to protect employees and facilities and keep the refinery running.

Readiness in HSED is a requirement, Gashmardi said. Continuous training, fire drills, emergency-scenario practice, equipment readiness, and human preparedness must always be at the highest level.

Command of the scene was an important factor in controlling the incident. Coordination among units and the speed of the crews can contain an event and limit its consequences, he said.

Support and the presence of the company’s chief executive in the crisis were effective. Management backing and managers standing with staff helped coordinate actions, strengthen firefighters’ morale, and get through the emergency.

The experience again showed the importance of readiness, coordination, speed, and teamwork. Solidarity among Lavan refinery staff was a factor in managing the incident. All units stood together and worked with a sense of responsibility to protect employees, safeguard facilities, and keep Iran’s oil production going.

Staff knowledge and experience, together with proper support and management, opened the way for reconstruction, a return to normal, and continued production, he said.

Lavan Oil Refining Company operates on Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf. Besides processing crude, it supplies part of the petroleum products Iran needs. Part of its facilities was damaged in an attack in March–April 2026.
