Startup of Kharg Natural-Gas Power Plant in Iran Put on the Agenda
RoydadNaft – The chief executive of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company said startup of one or two turbines at the Kharg NGL, or natural-gas, plant power station is being pursued to supply electricity for oil facilities, petrochemicals, and residents of the island.
According to Roydad Naft, Ahmad Reza Rasti spoke during a visit by parliament’s Article 90 Commission to Kharg Island. The Kharg NGL plant power station has about 100 megawatts of capacity, and talks have been held with the contractor to use that capacity, he said.
The aim is to bring one, or at most two, of the plant’s turbines online so Kharg Island’s power need is met.
The island needs about 18 to at most 20 megawatts, covering the Iranian Offshore Oil Company’s facilities, petrochemicals, and the residential sector, Rasti said.
On revival of the Kharg NGL project, he said that a few years ago, after a decision to revive the scheme, the project was put to auction at about 40% progress and an investor company was found.
There is no problem supplying gas. Besides the Forouzan platform, gas capacity is available in other operating areas, including Bahregan and the Abuzar platform.
