Iran’s Parliament Registers Inquiry Into National Iranian Oil Company

RoydadNaft –  A parliamentary inquiry into the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has been filed in the Majlis system, Tehran lawmaker Hossein Samsami said, accusing the oil minister of nine months of silence on indebted oil-sales trustees.

Samsami told Roydad Naft that his question about debtor trustees and the weakening of Iran’s oil-sales structure went unanswered by the minister for nine months. That silence, he said, gave indebted trustees time to escape and burned the chance to clean up the system. The investigation-and-inquiry motion is now registered in parliament’s system.

He said the probe aims to measure the scale of violations and recover public assets, punish those who ordered, carried out or brokered the deals, and overhaul processes so the pattern cannot be repeated.

According to Tasnim, Article 212 of parliament’s internal rules lets a lawmaker submit a written inquiry request to the presiding board, which must send it to the relevant specialized committee within 48 hours. The committee has two weeks to share the information it gathers with the applicant. If the inquiry is approved, the same committee has 20 days to name an 11- to 15-member inquiry board from among lawmakers. After the investigation period, the board has one month to report to the committee, which then has one month to prepare a final report for a 30-minute reading in the chamber. The minister or responsible official may defend their record before the final vote.
