Iran Recasts South Pars Production and Development Plans After Wartime Damage
RoydadNaft – Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) has revised production, maintenance and development plans for the shared South Pars field to match constraints created after the wars, the acting head of the company’s petroleum and gas engineering department said.
Ashkan Asadi told a meeting on South Pars performance and output outlook that production scenarios, rig allocation and drilling priorities have been reset to protect maximum output and return faster to previous levels, Roydad Naft reported.
Upstream capacity at South Pars can still supply as much rich-gas feedstock as the refineries can process, he said. Any available treating capacity at the plants can be matched from the field’s wells and platforms, which is why speeding the recovery of refining capacity matters.
On reservoir upkeep, Asadi put cumulative rich-gas withdrawal from South Pars at more than 110 trillion cubic feet. Over the next 10 to 15 years, even as new fields are developed, South Pars will remain POGC’s main source of gas, he said. Developing new resources therefore does not reduce the need to invest in maintaining this field. Reservoir-protection programs, infill drilling and pressure boosting should stay a priority.
Drilling completed at South Pars totals about 1,600 kilometers, a figure he said shows the scale of subsurface work already done on the field.
