RoydadNaft –  China’s oil major PetroChina said on Thursday its Dushanzi Petrochemical unit’s 1.2 million ‌metric tons per year ethylene project in Xinjiang had started up successfully on the first attempt.

The project will raise Dushanzi ⁠Petrochemical’s ethylene production capacity to 3 million tons per year, helping reshape China’s ethylene capacity structure and boosting capacity in western China, according to the company statement.

It will also enable its products to compete ‌with ⁠those of leading global producers, according to the company.

The company described the project as China’s first full-chain ⁠demonstration project in the petrochemical sector to apply green and low-carbon development principles.

The ⁠project will consume 1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean photovoltaic power ⁠from Tarim Oilfield each year, PetroChina said.
