Lordegan Petrochemical Shatters Urea and Ammonia Records After Catalyst Upgrade, Rakes in $100M in Export Revenue

Iran’s Lordegan Petrochemical Complex set new October records for urea and ammonia output after a catalyst upgrade, generating $100 million in foreign currency from urea exports.

RoydadNaft –  Iran’s petrochemical sector notched a major win as the Lordegan Petrochemical Complex smashed monthly production records for urea and ammonia in October, thanks to a savvy catalyst swap that cranked up output and funneled $100 million in foreign currency back to the national coffers from urea exports alone.

In a statement that underscores the plant’s rising prowess, CEO Mohsen Esmaili revealed the Mehr month (October) haul: a whopping 79,000 tons of urea fertilizer and over 54,000 tons of ammonia—eclipsing every prior benchmark from this year and last. “This isn’t just a number; it’s the fruit of our team’s relentless drive,” Esmaili said, highlighting how the upgrades propelled year-to-date totals to an all-time high of 455,000 tons of urea and 285,000 tons of ammonia since the facility’s inception.

The secret sauce? A meticulous reactor catalyst replacement and overhaul, spearheaded by in-house experts. Complex President Samadi credited the move for boosting the ammonia unit’s capacity from 76% to 90% and urea’s from 75% to 80%. “These tweaks didn’t just tweak production—they supercharged it,” Samadi told Ruyad Naft, noting the ripple effect: a 30% revenue surge since January, with urea shipments abroad delivering a cool $100 million in hard-earned forex.

Nestled in Falarad County with a robust base of 40,000 shareholders, Lordegan stands as a poster child for Iran’s push toward self-reliant petrochemical growth. As global fertilizer demand surges amid volatile markets—urea prices lingering near $300 per ton—these gains couldn’t be timelier, bolstering food security exports and easing domestic supply strains. For Lordegan’s specialists, it’s proof that targeted innovation can turn industrial hurdles into export goldmines.
