Iraq and Turkmenistan Sign Energy and Gas Import Agreement
RoydadNaft – Iraq and Turkmenistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation and gas imports during the fourth round of political consultations in Baghdad on Monday, aimed at addressing the two countries’ energy needs.
According to a statement from Iraq’s Foreign Ministry, the Iraqi delegation was led by Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, Deputy Foreign Minister, while the Turkmen delegation was headed by Ahmed Gurbanov, his counterpart from Turkmenistan.
The two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation prospects and ways to strengthen ties, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors, under existing agreements and MoUs.
They reaffirmed their joint commitment to expanding this partnership for mutual benefit.
Bahr Al-Uloom highlighted Iraq’s positive security and political environment, urging Turkmenistan’s public and private sectors to visit Iraq and explore collaboration opportunities across various fields.
The MoU specifically focuses on energy collaboration and Turkmenistan’s gas exports to Iraq to meet mutual energy demands.
Bahr Al-Uloom and Gurbanov emphasized that official high-level visits between the two countries are a key step in consolidating bilateral ties.
They also stressed that opening embassies in Baghdad and Ashgabat represents a strategic move to bolster diplomatic relations and broaden cooperation in political, economic, and cultural domains.
