Shorter Shutdowns on Iran’s South Pars Platforms Save More Than $5 Million

The production and operations manager of Pars Oil and Gas Company said a specialized offshore valve-repair workshop has been set up, cutting South Pars platform downtime and returning units to production faster. The change has prevented a shutdown of 28 million cubic meters of gas a day and generated more than $5 million in economic savings.

RoydadNaft –  The production and operations manager of Pars Oil and Gas Company said a specialized offshore valve-repair workshop has been set up, cutting South Pars platform downtime and returning units to production faster. The change has prevented a shutdown of 28 million cubic meters of gas a day and generated more than $5 million in economic savings.

According to Roydad Naft, Alireza Sarmadi said deploying the workshop has shortened the repair path for South Pars platforms and reduced the time needed for the work.

A main concern during platform turnarounds has been long equipment outages and lost output. The offshore valve-repair workshop has largely addressed that problem, he said.

Shorter shutdowns and a faster return to production are equivalent to avoiding a 28-million-cubic-meter-a-day gas stoppage and more than $5 million in savings for Iran, Sarmadi said.

Putting repair equipment and facilities at sea not only cuts job time but can also make turnarounds and maintenance on South Pars platforms easier, he added.
