Fajr Jam Gas Refinery revives incinerators with in-house expertise

RoydadNaft –  Fajr Jam Gas Refinery completed the reconstruction and commissioning of its A and B waste incinerators, ending a five-year delay by relying on in-house expertise and domestic capabilities.

Operations Manager Hamid Allahverdi said the two incinerators had suffered from severe corrosion of their steel shells and extensive damage to their refractory brick lining. A technical inspection concluded that both units required complete replacement of their outer shells and full restoration of their internal refractory lining.

Several rounds of tenders over the past five years failed to produce a contractor, delaying the project until the refinery launched the work using its own engineering and technical resources.

Each incinerator measures 8 meters in length and 4 meters in diameter and was rebuilt with 15-millimeter carbon steel plates designed to withstand high-temperature operating conditions.

The project began with the procurement of steel plates, cutting, rolling, specialized welding and fabrication at the refinery’s central workshop by in-house specialists. The completed shells were then transported to the operating site and installed in their designated positions.

In the next phase, a selected contractor completed the internal refractory brickwork under the supervision of the refinery’s mechanical maintenance department to ensure effective thermal insulation. Instrumentation and control systems were then installed and calibrated by the maintenance team.

The final stage involved curing the refractory lining in accordance with standard procedures and under the supervision of the contractor, inspectors and operations personnel. The process is critical to improving the refractory’s mechanical strength and extending the service life of the furnace walls.

After all required testing was successfully completed, both incinerators were returned to service and are now fully operational, Allahverdi said.

The seven-month project demonstrates the refinery’s ability to complete complex maintenance work using domestic expertise. Allahverdi said the reconstruction resolved a five-year challenge in waste management and environmental protection while eliminating dependence on foreign resources, providing the refinery with two highly reliable waste incinerators.
