100 Million Cubic Meters to Be Restored to Iran’s Gas Production Capacity
RoydadNaft – The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said efforts are underway to restore about 100 million cubic meters to Iran’s gas production capacity before the start of the cold season, with necessary measures taken to manage consumption and ensure a stable gas supply during the winter.
According to Roydad Naft, Saeed Tavakoli said on Thursday at an energy consumption management meeting attended by the governor of North Khorasan Province that, despite existing challenges and limitations in gas production, the National Iranian Gas Company is working at full capacity to manage winter conditions and ensure a stable supply of gas across Iran.
He added that on March 18, 2026, four gas refineries and facilities in Asaluyeh were taken offline, resulting in the loss of about 230 million cubic meters of gas from the production system. However, efforts and integrated management are now enabling part of this capacity to return to operation.
Potential Gas Supply Strain in Some Areas
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company said about 100 million cubic meters of production capacity is expected to return before the start of the cold season. However, some areas may still face potential gas supply constraints, and the necessary measures have been anticipated to manage such conditions.
Tavakoli stressed the need to plan for alternative fuels to manage emergency situations, saying preventive measures must be taken in the energy sector to manage crises. He noted that people in Iran are highly dependent on natural gas and that supply-demand imbalances during peak consumption periods are an issue that has been experienced in recent years, including during the recent war.
Conservation Is the Lowest-Cost Way to Manage Consumption
He described optimization and energy conservation as the lowest-cost approaches to managing energy consumption, adding that alongside expanding production capacity, optimization and conservation must also receive serious attention—an issue that has also been emphasized by Iran’s 14th administration.
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company also stressed the importance of using the company’s managerial capabilities and experience in managing energy consumption.
Iran Ready to Import Gas From Turkmenistan
Regarding gas imports from Turkmenistan, Tavakoli said the National Iranian Gas Company is determined to import gas from Turkmenistan and that Iran should make use of the capacities of neighboring countries.
He added that expanding ties with neighboring countries could create opportunities for mutual benefit and, given the good relations between Iran and Turkmenistan, Iran is ready to continue along this path or, if necessary, pursue the matter through investment.
North Khorasan Expected to Face the Fewest Challenges
Referring to measures taken in North Khorasan Province, the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company said the province is expected to face the fewest challenges, given the measures currently being implemented effectively there.
In response to the North Khorasan governor’s proposal to establish a national task force for optimal gas consumption management in the province, Tavakoli said a national gas management task force could be held in North Khorasan and that, if holding such a task force in the province is deemed necessary, it will be arranged.
He concluded by saying that the National Iranian Gas Company is working at full capacity to manage conditions and ensure the required gas supply, adding that part of the refinery capacity that had been damaged has already been restored.
