Oil-Tank Fire Simulated on Iran’s Kharg Island
RoydadNaft – An emergency-response drill with the scenario of a fire at oil tank No. 8 was held to assess the readiness of Iranian Offshore Oil Company operations and firefighting crews on Kharg and to raise coordination among units in the Kharg operating area.
According to Roydad Naft, the exercise simulated a fire caused by a lightning strike on the tank’s rim seal. Stages of the response were evaluated, from declaring an emergency and dispatching crews to fire-suppression operations.
During the drill, the performance of the main firefighting system, the dry riser, fire trucks, and the foam-dosing system was checked under simulated conditions. An emergency-management committee was formed at the same time, and security, the clinic, operations, maintenance, and procurement and materials units took part in different parts of the exercise.
Search and transfer of a simulated casualty was another segment, aimed at assessing coordination between operating and support teams.
Main goals of the drill were to review the readiness of personnel and equipment, evaluate the emergency-response process, and identify points where coordination among units can improve.
The exercise was held in the Kharg operating area with participation from various units of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company.
