Iran’s Persian Gulf Holding Starts Euro 6 Gasoil at Nouri Petrochemical
RoydadNaft – Nouri Petrochemical has completed a heavy-end sweetening unit and begun producing Euro 6 gasoil with sulfur below 10 parts per million, putting Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company at the front of Iran’s clean-fuel output.
The project, launched in 2020–2021 to extend PGPIC’s value chain, has reached 100% completion and is now making product, Roydad Naft reported, citing PGPIC.
Managing Director Gholamreza Jamshidi said the aim was to cut sulfur, raise quality and create a higher-value stream for export markets. Sulfur in the heavy cut has fallen from about 2,500 ppm to below 10 ppm, meeting international clean-fuel standards and opening a path into marine bunkering.
Nouri can produce about 2 million tons a year of Euro 6 gasoil on average, with room to rise depending on feedstock and the heavy-cut slate. Euro 6 is a high-spec grade familiar in European markets; making it at an Iranian petrochemical complex is a new national capability, the company said.
Investment was about €67 million in foreign currency and 2.5 trillion tomans in rials, with an estimated internal rate of return of about 29%. Roughly 70% of the project used domestic capacity, including knowledge-based firms. Needed catalysts have been localized over about three years. Work continued through the 40-day war, Jamshidi said, and the unit was built by Iranian specialists without a foreign licensor.
