RoydadNaft –  Lorestan’s governor has warned that the oil depot in Khorramabad’s Masur district must be moved because it sits too close to residential housing.

Seyed Saeed Shahrokhi told a provincial passive-defense council meeting that the Kiarash oil depot in Masur needs to be relocated and that the Oil Ministry and the pipeline company have already been informed and warned, Roydad Naft reported.

Moving the depot depends more on resolve than on funding, he said. The site was bought decades ago and, given its present value, can be transferred a few kilometers away through asset utilization.

Old pipeline layouts and the short distance to homes make the relocation urgent, Shahrokhi said.

Turning to drinking water, he said supply is critical for the province, especially Khorramabad and Borujerd. Historic Khorramabad, despite its many springs, still lacks reliable water, as does Borujerd. The Makhmal Kuh and Absardeh dams must be built, he said.

He asked Iran’s Passive Defense Organization to follow up in writing, including on presidential-visit commitments to construct the dams. With proper support, both dams could be finished within two years, he said, and the organization should treat them as a priority because of their importance for drinking water.

Shahrokhi also cited the 2019 Pol-e Dokhtar flood, which caused heavy damage in Lorestan, especially in Pol-e Dokhtar and Mamulan. Completing the Mashureh dam is essential there, he said. Work in the province is underway but needs more funding, and the project should be treated as a defensive dam for Lorestan and southern Iran.

He put Mashureh’s capacity at 525 million cubic meters, including about 350 million cubic meters reserved for flood control. Finishing the dam could help prevent a repeat of flood damage in Pol-e Dokhtar and downstream areas, he said.
