NIOC CEO: Iran Ranks First Worldwide in Gas Discoveries Since 2025
RoydadNaft – The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) announced that Iran has secured first place globally in discovering the largest volume of gas resources since 2025.
According to Roydad Naft, citing NIOC, Hamid Bord pointed to the discovery of the Takhteh gas field in southern Fars Province and the Pazan field. He said the combined discovery of 17.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in the two fields represents the largest volume of gas discovered anywhere in the world since 2025. As a result, the company has taken the top ranking in global gas resource discoveries during this period.
Bord noted that drilling operations at the Takhteh gas field — which led to the discovery of 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in place and 5.5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas — were underway in the middle of the 12-day imposed war and the third imposed war. He stressed that oil industry operations in Iran did not stop during those days. Exploration work continued and new fields were discovered.
The NIOC CEO added that, given Iran’s diverse hydrocarbon potential, the company plans to increase the number of exploration rigs and carry out seismic projects. Part of the Exploration Management’s capacity will be concentrated in the northeastern, northern, and northwestern provinces so that new resources can help ease part of the country’s energy imbalance.
