CNG Use Saves Iran About 6 Million Liters of Gasoline Per Day
RoydadNaft – According to the Chairman of the Board of the Iranian CNG Association, the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) is currently saving the country around 6 million liters of gasoline per day.
In a statement to Roydad Naft, Ehsan Janmohammadi, Chairman of the Board of the CNG Association of Iran, said: “With the increased use of CNG in dual-fuel vehicles, the country is saving approximately 6 million cubic meters of gasoline consumption daily.”
Janmohammadi added that under normal conditions in February, daily CNG consumption stood at about 15.8 million cubic meters.
He noted that roughly 80% of CNG is used in public transportation and light trucks. The roughly 50% drop in CNG consumption during the Nowruz holiday period is normal and consistent with previous years.
However, in March and April, due to the national crisis, natural gas was offered free of charge at around 1,500 CNG stations across the country. During the first week of the crisis, daily consumption rose to approximately 17 million cubic meters. This increase is estimated to have reduced gasoline consumption by about 6 million liters per day.
He further stated that currently, with CNG consumption at around 12 million cubic meters, the country has seen a 20% increase in CNG use compared to the same period last year during Nowruz. This reflects growing public interest in CNG, encouraged by station operators and owners who, in coordination with the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, have been providing free gas to consumers and visitors.
