Farzad B gas field’s first offshore platform nears completion at 93%
RoydadNaft – Construction of the first offshore platform jacket at Iran’s Farzad B gas field is 93 percent complete, the project’s development manager said, adding that the structure is expected to be loaded for transport in the coming days and installed by the end of the year.
According to Pars Oil and Gas Company, project manager Keyvan Tariqati said fabrication of the first four-leg jacket began in March 2024 by the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company. He said the pace of work accelerated over the past year following additional support from Pars Oil and Gas Company’s chief executive and cooperation from Petropars, the project’s main contractor, bringing progress to 93 percent.
Tariqati outlined the technical specifications, saying the WHP-1 jacket includes about 1,485 metric tons of primary structure along with roughly 1,165 tons of steel piles and accessories, for a total weight of about 2,650 tons. The 63-meter-tall structure is to be installed in waters 53.7 meters deep in the Persian Gulf.
He said about 80,000 diameter-inch units of welding have been completed on the jacket and that construction has involved more than 37,000 accident-free person-days, reflecting high safety and risk-management standards.
Tariqati said erection of the WHP-1 jacket was completed in late November and that loading and installation will follow shortly, after which drilling operations at the Farzad B field are to begin.
He added that the structure reflects domestic engineering capabilities and professional project management, noting that all stages from design through fabrication were carried out in line with international standards and with maximum use of local resources.
