Iran’s South Pars Enters AI Era with Strong Push for Indigenous Technology

Babak Poladi-Borj, Head of Research and Technology at Iran’s South Pars Gas Complex, stated that AI will drive South Pars into a new era of digitalized operations, enhancing monitoring, energy management, and real-time analytics.

RoydadNaft –  Iran’s South Pars Gas Complex, the world’s largest gas hub, has officially launched its ambitious digital transformation roadmap, making artificial intelligence and the indigenization of critical equipment the twin pillars of its future strategy.

According to Roydad Naft, the complex — which supplies over 75% of Iran’s natural gas consumption — is rolling out an aggressive program that combines cutting-edge AI deployment with a determined drive to domestically manufacture sophisticated technologies, sharply reducing Iran’s reliance on imported equipment.

Poladi-Borj announced that joint projects with Iranian universities and knowledge-based companies will soon deliver advanced data analytics platforms, human-error reduction systems, and intelligent decision-making tools across all 14 onshore refineries.

“While accelerating smartization initiatives, we have already launched strategic projects to locally manufacture complex equipment,” he emphasized, highlighting Iran’s broader goal of technological self-reliance.

The senior official concluded: “These measures will not only elevate productivity and production sustainability to unprecedented levels but will also establish Iran’s South Pars as the undisputed leader in digital transformation within the country’s energy sector.”

Producing more than 700 million cubic meters of gas daily, Iran’s South Pars Gas Complex is now poised to become the flagship of AI-driven operations in the Middle East upstream industry.
