The acting director of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department at the Iranian Oil Ministry stated that petrochemical companies consistently lead in HSE due to their strong performance in this field.

RoydadNaft –  The acting director of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department at the Iranian Oil Ministry stated that petrochemical companies consistently lead in HSE due to their strong performance in this field.

The sixth specialized seminar on safety and firefighting in the petrochemical industry was held with the participation of Shahram Ahmadi, acting HSE director of the Oil Ministry; Davoud Emadi, HSE director at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC); and several HSE managers from petrochemical special economic zones, holdings, and companies.

Speaking at the event, Ahmadi highlighted the prominent role of HSE in petrochemical companies, emphasizing their leadership in this area.

He stressed the importance of preventing accidents and damages as a strategic objective for ensuring sustainable production and protecting physical assets and human capital.

“Adherence to safety principles must be a key factor in selecting senior managers for any organization,” Ahmadi said.

He underscored the importance of transparency in HSE practices, warning that concealing incidents or unsafe conditions could mislead senior management and result in poor decisions.

“HSE involves interactions across various organizational layers and disciplines. Therefore, ensuring the professional competency of safety personnel is essential and should be included in the long-term plans of all companies and organizations,” he added.

Ahmadi also reviewed and analyzed significant industry incidents from the past year, emphasizing the need to follow HSE protocols during major overhauls. He pointed out that operational discipline plays a critical role in controlling accidents in the oil industry.

Collaboration, innovation keys to improved safety

Emadi, HSE and passive defense director at NPC, reflected on the history of the seminar and its objectives. “The main goal of these gatherings is to share safety and firefighting strategies across the petrochemical industry to create a unified approach among companies and holdings,” he said.

The official added that these events also aim to introduce new safety and firefighting technologies and facilitate the transfer of expertise and technical knowledge in the field.

Emadi discussed ongoing efforts to optimize the implementation of the Process Safety Management (PSM) framework in the petrochemical industry.

He stressed the importance of leveraging innovative methods and all available resources to establish a safe environment for petrochemical projects and complexes.
