Overhaul of South Pars gas platforms completed

The South Pars joint gas field's gas platforms were successfully overhauled through a well-planned, collaborative, and HSE-enhanced operation, ensuring safety and efficiency.

RoydadNaft –  The overhaul operations of the gas platforms in the South Pars joint gas field were successfully completed, thanks to a well-organized plan, collaboration among operational teams, and close oversight from the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) department of Pars Oil and Gas Company, all carried out under safe conditions.

According to Pars Oil and Gas Company, Ali-Mohammad Tahan, Head of HSE Department at the company’s Operations and Support Division, stated that despite the extensive scope of repairs required, the overhaul aimed at maximizing gas production set a new safety record.

Tahan stated that a sum of 4,225 work orders were issued during this year’s overhaul, with 2,274 of these completed successfully on the platforms in Zone 1, and 1,951 work orders completed on platforms in Zone 2.

Emphasizing the management and risk assessment throughout the overhaul process, Tahan noted that this year’s maintenance activities were among the heaviest and highest-risk operations in the oil industry.

These activities included isolating pipelines, replacing 13 32-inch valves (ESDV and MOV) weighing approximately 20 tons each, replacing seven outlet bends, conducting radiographic testing of lines post-replacement, pressure testing of wells on five platforms, clearing blockages in the flare pilot lines of eight platforms, and installing spark arresters on Platform 7, all of which were completed safely.

27,000 man-hours of safety and risk assessment training

Tahan further announced that 362 man-hours were dedicated to training on toxic gas hazards and basic safety procedures during the overhaul. In this context, some of the highest-level safety training courses were conducted, including confined space entry and permit-to-work courses.

Approximately 566 employees working on the overhaul received specialized training, totaling around 4,815 man-hours.

Referring to the intensive risk assessment sessions related to the major overhaul and startup of the South Pars gas platforms, Tahan stated that about 27,648 man-hours were spent over eight months on assessing risks, selecting appropriate action plans, and developing practical solutions to minimize potential accidents.

The official praised the unified, round-the-clock coordination between the safety and operational teams, both before and during the overhaul, as well as during the startup of the platforms.

Thanks to well-organized planning, teamwork, and HSE oversight on the platforms and onshore facilities, the gas platform overhauls were completed safely, and the offshore facilities in South Pars were brought back into operation to maximize gas production, Tahan concluded.
