RoydadNaft –  Qatar has extended by one more month a partial suspension of its liquefied natural gas export commitments to Asian and European markets, as shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted.

According to Roydad Naft, Bloomberg reported that Doha decided to prolong the halt of some LNG cargoes to Asian and European customers because of continued poor security conditions and limits on vessel traffic through the strait off Iran.

Disruption of ship movements in the Strait of Hormuz is cited as a main reason for keeping part of Qatar’s LNG exports on temporary hold.

Qatar is a major LNG supplier in global markets. Extending the restriction could affect LNG supply and energy-supply chains in Asia and Europe.

The situation may also put more pressure on the global energy market, especially as shipping-route disruption raises the time and cost of moving energy cargoes.
