Why trade restrictions do more harm to German economy than Iran?
As Germany has posted a €1.13 billion trade surplus in ten-month exchanges with Iran, any possible imposition of limits to doing business with Tehran by the Berlin government is expected to do more harm to the German economy than Iran.
Iran’s trade with the European Union stood at €4.328 billion over the first ten months of 2022, according to a report by the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat).
Iran’s trade with the 27-member bloc registered a 24% year-on-year growth in the January-October period, the report suggested. The volume of trade between the two sides amounted to €3.479 billion in the corresponding period of 2021.
The Eurostat report said that Germany was Iran’s main EU trade partner in the mentioned period.
Germany exported some €1.365 billion worth of commodities to Iran over the ten-month period, importing an only €235 million worth of goods from the country.
The figures are indicative of Germany’s €1.13 billion trade surplus in ten-month trade with Iran which shows that any possible imposition of limits to doing business with Tehran by the Berlin government would do more harm to the German economy than Iran.
