Gas prices continue to rise
The average price of a gallon of gas in Buffalo is $3.79 a gallon, which is up two cents from last week.
Drivers in Western New York are continuing to see gas prices increase, while the national and state averages are once again increasing.
The average price of a gallon of gas in Buffalo is $3.79, which is up two cents from the week prior. In Batavia, the cost of a gallon of gas increased by three cents per gallon since last week, now standing at $3.78. Meanwhile, Rochester also saw a three cent increase to $3.82 a gallon.
Nationally, the average price has gone up four cents since last week to $3.80. Across New York State, the average price of gas has gone up five cents since last Monday, settling at $3.87. A year ago the state average was $3.56.
AAA attributes the rise in gas prices to a tighter supply of oil and fluctuating prices. Additionally, the supply in the Northeast has been limited and prices are expected to continue to rise if supply continues to be tight and oil prices are high.
Trucking is also facing higher prices right now with the New York State average price of diesel fuel at $5.90 a gallon compared to $3.75 a year ago. Nationally, the average price of diesel is $5.34.
While gas prices remain higher than last year, AAA says drivers can conserve fuel by mapping their routes, avoiding peak traffic times, using cruise control when possible, and combining errands into one trip.
AAA also notes that drivers should make sure their vehicle’s tire pressure is at the recommended level to achieve the best gas mileage. Drivers should also remove any unnecessary and bulky items from their vehicles because it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
