US Accelerates Push to Expand Chevron’s Venezuela Oil License, Energy Secretary Says
The United States is moving as quickly as possible to grant Chevron an expanded license for oil production in Venezuela, allowing the company to pay the government in cash rather than crude and export 100% of its output, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Reuters on Friday.
RoydadNaft – The United States is moving as quickly as possible to grant Chevron an expanded license for oil production in Venezuela, allowing the company to pay the government in cash rather than crude and export 100% of its output, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Reuters on Friday.
This change would immediately turn Chevron into an additional marketer of Venezuelan crude, as the current license forces it to surrender roughly half its production as in-kind royalties and taxes.
The move comes as the Trump administration works to revive Venezuela’s oil sector following the removal of Nicolás Maduro from power earlier this month.
