Iran’s Petropars completes second Pars South infill well early

Iran’s Petropars has finished the second infill gas well (SPD1-9) on Phase 1 of South Pars ahead of schedule using domestic expertise, paving the way for an extra 800 MMcfd national output once all eight wells are done.

RoydadNaft –  Iran’s Petropars Group announced Wednesday that it has successfully drilled and completed the second infill gas well on the SPD-1 platform of Phase 1 of the giant South Pars field ahead of schedule and with full safety compliance, relying entirely on Iranian engineering capabilities.

Hamidreza Seqafi, CEO of Petropars, said the SPD1-9 well – located in one of the most geologically complex sections of the reservoir – was delivered “significantly faster than the original timeline” thanks to domestic know-how and strong support from employer Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC).

“This achievement is a major step toward boosting national gas production, improving the energy balance and showcasing the maturity of Iran’s drilling industry,” Seqafi stated.

Shahab Bastami, managing director of Petropars Oilfield Services Company (POSCO), added that lessons learned from the previous well (SPD1-10) and seamless coordination among operational teams ensured the operation was carried out with zero-incident.

Upon completion of the full eight-well infill programme by Petropars, daily gas production from Phase 1 is expected to rise by 800 million cubic feet – equivalent to roughly 22.6 million cubic metres.

The accelerated delivery underlines Iran’s push to maximise recovery from mature phases of South Pars, the world’s largest gas field shared with Qatar, through domestic contractors amid ongoing international sanctions.
