Iran’s Kermanshah Petrochemical boosts output, exports hit $91M
RoydadNaft – Iran’s Kermanshah Petrochemical Complex has bucked the national trend by raising production and almost doubling export revenue despite widespread energy restrictions affecting the sector, the deputy minister for industries said on Wednesday.
Ebrahim Sheikh, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT), told reporters during a visit to the plant’s expansion project that the complex produced 229,000 tonnes of ammonia and 398,000 tonnes of urea in the first seven months of the current Iranian year — marking year-on-year growth.
Export earnings jumped from $49 million to $91 million over the same period.
“While total petrochemical production in the country has declined 4% due to energy limitations and regional challenges, Kermanshah Petrochemical has delivered stable and positive performance,” Sheikh said.
He described the plant as a “successful export-oriented model” and stressed that the ministry would continue to support efficient facilities, particularly those reliant on natural gas feedstock such as urea and ammonia producers.
Sheikh identified winter gas supply as a key concern for the ministry, adding that protecting gas-based industries remains the top priority in allocation decisions.
Industry observers note that Kermanshah’s strong results — achieved amid nationwide feedstock rationing — could serve as a benchmark for other Iranian petrochemical plants if stable gas supply and infrastructure bottlenecks are addressed.
