Türkiye to purchase Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Iran

Ankara is increasing natural gas imports to boost European energy security, focusing on supplying Turkmen gas to Turkey and exporting it to Europe.

RoydadNaft –  Ankara continues taking steps to increase natural gas imports in order to promote the energy security of European countries. In this regard, we consider it important to start supplying Turkmen gas to Türkiye and its subsequent export to Europe, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Minister of Energy & Natural Resources of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar.

The minister recalled that the topic of energy cooperation with Turkmenistan has long been on Ankara’s agenda.

“Step by step, we plan to implement energy cooperation with Turkmenistan. At the first stage, it is possible to reach an agreement with neighboring Iran and Azerbaijan on swap supplies of Turkmen gas,” the minister said.

According to Bayraktar, Ankara and Baku have already reached a general agreement on the supply of Turkmen gas.

“Initially, we predict that we will receive up to 2 bcm of Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Iran,” he said, noting that gas transportation from neighboring countries can be expanded with the help of Türkiye’s pipeline networks.
