India’s current oil minister has been selected for a second term following the news this week that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party had pulled off a narrower than expected victory in national elections.

Hardeep Singh Puri will retain his title of Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas as India continues its trajectory to the world’s top spot for oil demand growth, according to S&P Global.

Puri became petroleum minister in 2021. A longtime diplomat, he also serves as Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, according to the Petroleum Ministry’s website.
