The company had in August said the first cargo from the project should depart in October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__small__1kGq2 body__full_width__ekUdw body__small_body__2vQyf article-body__paragraph__2-BtD\" data-testid=\"paragraph-2\">The first of three rigs that will compose the floating LNG facility arrived in Mexican waters in late August. The second departed last week from Kiewit Offshore Services&#8217; Ingleside, Texas, shipyard, according to the Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__small__1kGq2 body__full_width__ekUdw body__small_body__2vQyf article-body__paragraph__2-BtD\" data-testid=\"paragraph-3\">New Fortress did not immediately reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__small__1kGq2 body__full_width__ekUdw body__small_body__2vQyf article-body__paragraph__2-BtD\" data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">Altamira&#8217;s first LNG plant is part of a wider project by New Fortress and Mexico&#8217;s state-owned power utility CFE to build a $1.3 billion hub to convert U.S. and Mexican gas into LNG for export. Two additional floating LNG plants are under construction, with operations startup planned for 2025.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body__element__2p5pI\">\n<div class=\"spacing-container__container__2g5QT spacing-container__t-spacing-single-three-quarters__2_moJ spacing-container__b-spacing-single-three-quarters__1fuBK spacing-container__max-width__zScFd\" data-testid=\"ResponsiveAdSlot\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__container__FEnoz ad-slot__fixed-height__6m70D\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__inner__2u45U\">\n<div>New Fortress in June was granted a permit by Mexico to export up to 7.8 million metric tons through April 2028, and it had previously received authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy to export to Mexico and other countries with trade pacts. An authorization to export to nations without free trade agreements with the U.S. is pending.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__small__1kGq2 body__full_width__ekUdw body__small_body__2vQyf article-body__paragraph__2-BtD\" data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">A total of nine onshore and floating LNG production facilities are planned for Mexico&#8217;s Gulf and Pacific coasts, mostly to process U.S. gas.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body__element__2p5pI\">\n<div class=\"spacing-container__container__2g5QT spacing-container__t-spacing-single-three-quarters__2_moJ spacing-container__b-spacing-single-three-quarters__1fuBK spacing-container__max-width__zScFd\" data-testid=\"ResponsiveAdSlot\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__container__FEnoz ad-slot__fixed-height__6m70D\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__inner__2u45U ad-slot__inline-canvas__7thaS\">\n<div id=\"reuters_desktop_native_3\" class=\"ad-slot__slot__2lKAK\" data-google-query-id=\"COOT_9rkwIEDFZRWpAQdrl0EWQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/4735792\/reuters.com\/business\/energy\/article_3__container__\">\n<div class=\"__fs-ancillary\">\n<div class=\"report-ad-container \">New Fortress in 2021 bought oil rigs\u00a0from Maersk Drilling to convert them into floating LNG plants.
