RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has seized two foreign oil tankers smuggling fuel in the Persian Gulf waters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past two days, the forces of the third zone of IRGC\u2019s Navy seized two oil tankers that were engaged in an organized smuggling of the Islamic Republic\u2019s oil and gas in the Persian Gulf,\u201d the deputy Commander of the IRGC\u2019s Third Naval Zone, Mohammad Sharif Shirali, said on Friday.<\/p>\n

He identified the vessels as Panama\u00a0and Tanzania-flagged\u00a0tankers named \u201cStephen\u201d and \u201cCrown\u201d, adding that their seizure took place upon judicial order.<\/p>\n

Some 1.5 million liters of fuel were confiscated during the operation.<\/p>\n

The IRGC\u2019s naval forces managed to \u201cguide the seized tankers to Bandar-e Mahshahr and Arvand base\u201d, and handed over the 37 crew members who were on board the vessels to the legal authorities, Shirali said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the IRGC\u2019s naval forces \u201cvigilantly\u201d monitors \u201call illegal moves by foreign commercial and military vessels\u201d in the Persian Gulf region.<\/p>\n

The IRGC\u2019s Navy confiscated more than 50 million liters of smuggled fuel, mainly diesel, in various missions last year.<\/p>\n

It has over the past years foiled several attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers in the strategic Persian Gulf region and other high seas.<\/p>\n
