{"id":6187,"date":"2023-06-23T13:21:02","date_gmt":"2023-06-23T13:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=6187"},"modified":"2023-06-23T13:22:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T13:22:48","slug":"ukraines-naftogaz-takes-crimea-compensation-battle-against-russia-to-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/6187\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine&#8217;s Naftogaz takes Crimea compensation battle against Russia to US"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\">\n<p>Roydad Naft News Agency &#8211; Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz said on Friday it had taken legal action in the United States against Russia to recover $5 billion awarded in the Hague as compensation for damages and lost property in Crimea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said it had filed a motion in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and that it had the right to do so as the U.S. is among countries hosting Russian assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, seized Crimea in 2014 and annexed the peninsula, triggering sanctions from Western governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naftogaz&#8217;s assets in Crimea included Chornomornaftogaz, which produced significant amounts of gas from the Black Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naftogaz\u00a0said\u00a0in April that an arbitration court in The Hague had ordered Russia to pay $5 billion in compensation for unlawfully expropriating the Ukrainian company&#8217;s assets in Crimea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Since Russia has not voluntarily paid the funds to Naftogaz as provided for by the award, we intend to leverage all available mechanisms to recover these funds,&#8221; Naftogaz CEO Oleksiy Chernyshov said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chernyshov said the company was working on this in the United States and other target jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would look at all possible ways to protect its legal rights in the case.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-date no-social-btn post-updated\">Updated on<time class=\"updated dt-updated\" itemprop=\"dateModified\" datetime=\"2023-06-23T13:22:48+00:00\"> 23 June 2023<\/time><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Roydad Naft News Agency &#8211; Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz said on Friday it had taken legal action in the United States against Russia to recover $5 billion awarded in the Hague as compensation for damages and lost property in Crimea.
