{"id":6061,"date":"2023-06-16T12:02:52","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T12:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=6061"},"modified":"2023-06-16T12:13:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T12:13:35","slug":"australias-agl-senex-energy-sign-big-gas-supply-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/6061\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#8217;s AGL, Senex Energy sign big gas supply deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\">\n<p>Roydad Naft News Agency &#8211; Australian gas producer Senex Energy, owned by South Korean steel giant Posco, has entered into an agreement to supply 42 petajoules (PJ) of gas to the country&#8217;s top power producer AGL Energy, the companies said on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal comes\u00a0amid warnings\u00a0this year from Australia&#8217;s energy market operator of long-term supply gaps for gas on the country&#8217;s east coast, and after gas producers said they were reluctant to invest in new supply following government interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This agreement will add critical new supply to the domestic market when it&#8217;s needed most,&#8221; Senex Energy Chief Executive Ian Davies said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gas deal, expected to begin in January 2025, is conditional on the restart of a A$1 billion ($687 million) expansion at Senex Energy&#8217;s Atlas project in Queensland state&#8217;s Surat Basin, Davies said. The value of the deal was not specified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expansion was\u00a0suspended in December\u00a0after the Australian government\u00a0set a price cap\u00a0on new wholesale gas sales by east coast producers in a bid to reduce power bills for households and businesses hit by soaring costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the move was met with fierce opposition from the industry, which said the reforms dealt a blow to the gas supply and the country&#8217;s future energy security, and will lead to market chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senex in August last year announced the expansion plans at Atlas to raise its output to 60 PJ a year by 2025, before shelving it after the government&#8217;s decision on price caps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resumption of the expansion work at Atlas requires approvals from the federal agreement and regulators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>($1 = 1.4550 Australian dollars)<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-date no-social-btn post-updated\">Updated on<time class=\"updated dt-updated\" itemprop=\"dateModified\" datetime=\"2023-06-16T12:13:35+00:00\"> 16 June 2023<\/time><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Roydad Naft News Agency &#8211; Australian gas producer Senex Energy, owned by South Korean steel giant Posco, has entered into an agreement to supply 42 petajoules (PJ) of gas to the country&#8217;s top power producer AGL Energy, the companies said on Friday.
