{"id":5839,"date":"2023-06-06T14:09:41","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T14:09:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=5839"},"modified":"2023-06-06T14:11:26","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T14:11:26","slug":"mp-tehran-ashgabat-gas-cooperation-could-turn-iran-into-regions-energy-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/5839\/","title":{"rendered":"MP: Tehran-Ashgabat gas cooperation could turn Iran into region\u2019s energy hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\">\n<p>Tehran-Ashgabat cooperation in the gas sector could turn Iran into an energy hub in the region, said a lawmaker on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roydad Naft News Agency &#8211; Malek Shariati Niasar, the Iranian Parliament\u2019s Energy Committee spokesman, made the remarks in his talks with SHANA and called for seizing the opportunity and swapping gas from Turkmenistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MP praised the Ministry of Petroleum under the 13th (incumbent) administration for promoting energy diplomacy and added, \u201cIn the past, all attention was focused on Western countries and the gas deal with Turkmenistan was canceled due to poor energy diplomacy, inflicting damage on the country\u2019s gas sector and even traders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spokesman said gas imports from Turkmenistan will also help meet some part of the needs in north and northeastern Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, the positive approaches [adopted by the incumbent administration] in the energy diplomacy have helped clear the debt Iran owed to Turkmenistan for importing gas in the previous governments and expand Tehran-Ashgabat economic relations, Shariati Niasar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking to reporters on the sidelines of his last week\u2019s meeting with Batyr Amanov, the chairman of the T\u00fcrkmengaz State Concern, Iran\u2019s Oil Minister Javad Owji said, \u201cThe 13th administration started swapping 1.5 to 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per year when it took office on the basis of a contract with the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the volume of gas swap almost doubled last year following the two sides\u2019 agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A gas contract will be signed with Turkmenistan soon and imports will begin in June, the minister continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turkmenistan is the fourth-largest holder of gas reserves in the world and Iran has the capacity of importing 40 to 50 mcm\/d, said Owji, adding, \u201cWe intend to boost our gas trade (swap, transit, and transactions) in the region, which be beneficial for both countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Tuesday, Iran\u2019s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi held talks with visiting Chairman of the People\u2019s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and said Tehran and Ashgabat have great capacities for promoting their cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, transit and customs affairs, agriculture, and science and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tehran-Ashgabat relations have been considerably enhanced since Iran\u2019s incumbent government took office about two years ago, as it is determined to boost the country\u2019s ties with neighbors, Raeisi added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-date no-social-btn post-updated\">Updated on<time class=\"updated dt-updated\" itemprop=\"dateModified\" datetime=\"2023-06-06T14:11:26+00:00\"> 6 June 2023<\/time><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tehran-Ashgabat cooperation in the gas sector could turn Iran into an energy hub in the region, said a lawmaker on Monday.
