{"id":5421,"date":"2023-05-16T12:36:58","date_gmt":"2023-05-16T12:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=5421"},"modified":"2023-05-16T12:42:55","modified_gmt":"2023-05-16T12:42:55","slug":"chinas-refinery-throughput-jumped-19-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/5421\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s Refinery Throughput Jumped 19% In April"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\">\n<p>China\u2019s slower-than-expected economic recovery has weighed on oil markets recently, especially following the report of a decline in manufacturing activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refinery throughput in China suggests demand growth may not be as reluctant as some indicators make out, jumping 18.9% in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While April throughput was a decline on the record-breaking March average, it still suggests refiners are preparing for a strong summer travel season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the latest sign that Chinese oil demand growth is not as reluctant as some indicators might suggest, refinery throughput in the Asian powerhouse came close to 15 million bpd last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The daily average of 14.87 million bpd represented an 18.9% increase on the year and was the second-highest since records began, Reuters noted in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/chinas-april-oil-refinery-throughput-rises-189-year-ago-2023-05-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the April figure was a decline on the March average which was record-breaking, driven by solid fuel demand from abroad and the race to build inventories ahead of the start of maintenance season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refinery throughput rates in March hit\u00a014.9 million barrels daily, after an average of 14.36 million bpd for January and February. Both figures were substantially higher than throughput rates a year earlier when China was in the grips of Covid lockdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economists expect China to account for the biggest portion of oil demand growth this year, although their expectations differ in the part about the actual size of the increase. It varies between 500,000 and 1 million bpd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demand in China is being watched closely by analysts and oil traders alike but the latter appear to have developed an uncertainty about where this demand was heading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports of a decline in manufacturing activity instead of sustained growth was one reason for the doubts to emerge even though demand for oil smashed records,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energyintel.com\/00000187-e08d-d217-a1df-f68d47690000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">topping<\/a>&nbsp;15 million bpd for the first time ever in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA return to normal mobility in China is the single biggest demand driver, accounting for 1.0 million barrels per day (b\/d) of the 2.6 million b\/d increase this year,\u201d Wood Mackenzie said in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/03\/23\/wood-mackenzie-chinas-oil-demand.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per that report, as much as 38% of global demand growth this year would come from China, whose economy\u00a0grew\u00a0by 2.2% during the first quarter, up from a 0.6% growth rate in the final quarter of 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-date no-social-btn post-updated\">Updated on<time class=\"updated dt-updated\" itemprop=\"dateModified\" datetime=\"2023-05-16T12:42:55+00:00\"> 16 May 2023<\/time><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"China\u2019s slower-than-expected economic recovery has weighed on oil markets recently, especially following the report of a decline in manufacturing activity.
