{"id":4046,"date":"2023-03-05T14:36:09","date_gmt":"2023-03-05T14:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=4046"},"modified":"2023-03-05T14:36:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-05T14:36:12","slug":"iran-announces-discovery-of-large-lithium-deposit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/4046\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran announces discovery of large lithium deposit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\" itemprop=\"description\">\n<p>Iran has announced the discovery of a large deposit of lithium, a key component of batteries for\u00a0electric vehicles\u00a0and electronic devices, state media reported Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;For the first time in Iran, a lithium reserve has been discovered in Hamedan&#8221;, in the west of the country, state television quoted Mohammad Hadi Ahmadi, an official with the ministry of industry, mines and trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This reserve is believed to hold &#8220;8.5 million tonnes&#8221; of lithium, according to the director-general of the ministry&#8217;s operating department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dubbed the &#8220;oil of the 21st century&#8221;, lithium is essential for the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles, which should allow cars to wean themselves off\u00a0CO2-emitting oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This white metal is also an essential component of rechargeable batteries used in cell phones and other electronic devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a United States Geological Survey (USGS) report published in 2022, a total of 89 million tons of lithium have been identified worldwide.
