U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures also gained 57 cents, or 0.6%, to $92.42 a barrel.

Oil prices fluctuated on Monday, October 12, 2026, as markets weighed the possibility of additional supplies following U.S. President Donald Trump’s welcome of fresh Russian diesel exports against signs of tightening supply after major attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Recovering from earlier losses, Brent crude futures rose 69 cents, or 0.7%, to $105.41 a barrel by 9:23 a.m. GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained 57 cents, or 0.6%, to $92.42 a barrel.

The Iran-aligned Houthis claimed responsibility for a strike on Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday, October 10, that killed 13 people and injured more than 300. Further attacks were reported on Sunday, October 11.

Meanwhile, additional attacks on tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz have been reported this month, threatening to undermine the recovery in Middle Eastern crude oil exports seen in September.

A tanker was struck by a drone near Sohar, Oman, while another vessel was damaged while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Goldman Sachs raised its December Brent crude price forecast to $90 a barrel from $85, citing a risk premium of just over $20 a barrel, according to a research note.

“We forecast WTI prices, which are unusually low relative to Brent because of high shipping costs between the United States and Europe, to average $81 a barrel in December 2026 and $73 a barrel in 2027,” the analysts added.

In the Gulf of Mexico, major energy companies Shell, Chevron and BP were seeking to redeploy personnel and restore production at their offshore platforms after Hurricane Isaias made landfall early on Saturday, October 10.

RUSSIAN DIESEL SUPPLIES INCREASE

ICE gasoil futures fell 4.3% to $1,419.50 per metric ton after President Trump said on Friday, October 9, that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel, equivalent to approximately 2.25 million barrels, to U.S. and global markets, with additional volumes expected later.

“The immediate impact of the deal is questionable, as Russia’s refining capacity has been severely reduced,” said Tamas Varga, an analyst at PVM Oil Associates.

“However, Moscow has partially lifted its ban on diesel exports, allowing 500,000 metric tons, or around 3.7 million barrels, to be released onto the international market. That is equivalent to roughly one day of U.S. consumption and about 13% of global demand,” he added.

Trump also unexpectedly announced on Sunday, October 11, that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an energy ceasefire. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was still waiting for details, while Russia made no comment.

Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), said all member countries should assess whether additional releases of diesel from their reserves were necessary. He also urged countries that had not yet fully delivered their pledged volumes to accelerate releases, prioritizing diesel supplies.

Brent crude futures rose 69 cents, or 0.7%, to $105.41 a barrel.
