Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a statement reported by Russian state media, said Moscow has confirmed its readiness to supply oil and petroleum products for the United States and world markets.

The deal drew a negative reaction from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who warned that it shows Russia it can continue its attacks. Trump told reporters in response that Zelensky could have ended this war many times but chose not to. The U.S. president added that he suggests Ukraine choose a new leader who can reach a deal.

The agreement has also faced sharp criticism from members of Congress.

Gabe Amo, a Democrat from Rhode Island and a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote on social media that after signing a law to tighten sanctions on Russia, Trump is now paying Putin for oil to counter high gasoline prices caused by a war he himself launched against Iran. This is not punishing Putin, he added. It is profiting him.

In 2022, Congress passed a bill banning imports of Russian oil and authorizing further sanctions. The law included an exception allowing the president to permit energy imports bought before the law was passed, or to allow imports when they were in the national interest.

The Republican representative from Pennsylvania said a bipartisan bill has been introduced in Congress to ban purchases of Russian oil, in reaction to Trump’s recent approval of 300,000 tons of diesel imports from Moscow and amid wide political criticism.
[47,46,36,19,16,42,35
["post-19146","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-breaking-news","category-international","category-lastnews","category-news","category-oil","category-politics","category-topnews
["GET
