The step is part of an earlier decision by the countries that is now being carried out.<\/p>\n<p>According to Roydad Naft, G7 members said in a joint statement on Friday, October 2, 2026, that 100 million barrels of crude should be released immediately from strategic reserves to counter unprecedented fuel prices and turmoil in the global oil market. The volume is to enter the world market starting now and over a four-month period.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the release is part of a decision taken in March and must now be put into effect given market conditions. Before the statement, G7 leaders consulted by video, a meeting that included German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The group cited \u201cunprecedented volatility in oil markets\u201d and said pressure on industrial economies and consumers has risen in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks fuel prices, especially diesel, have risen sharply, adding to concern about inflation and production costs.
