RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The chief executive of the National Petrochemical Company said about 60% of capacity lost in the war has been restored and warned of feedstock trouble in the coming winter.<\/p>\n

According to Roydad Naft, citing NPC, Omid Shakeri spoke to reporters on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, on the sidelines of a ceremony to sign memorandums for the \u201cPulse of Energy\u201d campaign. Damage to the petrochemical industry fell in two areas \u2014 utilities and some specific processes \u2014 and reconstruction is under way in both, with utility rebuilds followed continuously, he said.<\/p>\n

In Assaluyeh and Mahshahr, Iran\u2019s two main petrochemical hubs, recovery is proceeding well. Officials are trying to put a substantial share of lost capacity back into production by the end of this year.<\/p>\n

About 60% of lost petrochemical capacity has already been recovered and returned to the production cycle, Shakeri said. He hoped conditions would improve further by year-end.<\/p>\n

Winter feedstock limits are likely because of the gas imbalance \u2014 a problem every year that is harder now after enemy damage to the refining industry. On recovered capacity and readiness to produce, the petrochemical industry is in a reasonable position, and the aim is a better situation by year-end, he said.<\/p>\n

Every winter, higher household gas use has brought unwanted limits on some industries, including petrochemicals. This year is harder: about 230 million cubic meters of gas-refining capacity was lost. Work by the Oil Ministry, the National Iranian Gas Company, and the National Iranian Oil Company has brought part of that back, but shortfalls remain.<\/p>\n

NPC will try to limit the war\u2019s effects and the drop in capacity for petrochemical complexes, Shakeri said, but this year will be tougher for the industry.<\/p>\n

On exports, he said petrochemicals is fundamentally a product seller. It exports, brings the foreign currency back, and the whole export and FX-repatriation process is supervised by the Central Bank, so there is no problem on that score. War and blockade have naturally created export difficulties, but measures are in place to keep shipments going and bring currency home so main FX-using sectors can be supplied.<\/p>\n

Launching the Pulse of Energy conservation campaign, Shakeri invited the public and consuming sectors to back the national effort so more energy is available and the feedstock challenge for petrochemical complexes can be eased.
