In other words, the spread between the two products fell to its tightest level in months.<\/p>\n<p>The daily swing was also sharp, the largest one-day move since 2022, when Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine raised widespread fears of energy-supply disruption and fuel shortages. Part of that move reversed on Thursday, September 24, and the spread partly returned toward earlier levels.<\/p>\n<p>Europe is a structural diesel importer<\/p>\n<p>The rise in diesel prices outside the United States comes as global markets are already tight. Refinery outages, lower exports from some major producers, and low inventories have added pressure. Europe is a structural importer of the fuel and covers a large share of its needs with seaborne supply, so any curb on U.S. exports would intensify competition for remaining cargoes.<\/p>\n<p>Global fuel prices could stay under pressure<\/p>\n<p>A U.S. diesel export ban could also reroute trade. Less American supply would mean tighter availability for Europe and other importing regions, and buyers would have to compete harder for replacement cargoes.
