Data from AAA, cited by JPMorgan, put U.S. diesel at a record $6.31 a gallon last Thursday, September 17, 2026 \u2014 about 69% higher than $3.69 a gallon a year earlier. Bloomberg wrote on Monday that tanker rates at these levels are a new, underappreciated inflation shock that most forecasters have not fully built in, because it moves through supply chains gradually and does not appear at the pump all at once.<\/p>\n<p>Frontline Ltd., one of the largest publicly listed VLCC operators by fleet size, is the most direct stock-market expression of the tanker-rate shock. Its earnings are tied to the spot charter market, which is now printing rates above $1 million a day.<\/p>\n<p>Other listed tanker companies benefiting from the rates include International Seaways and DHT Holdings, which offer more liquid ways to invest in the VLCC spot market. Frontline\u2019s shares have roughly doubled year to date, showing how the market has fully repriced the company\u2019s earnings potential at current charter rates.<\/p>\n<p>The main driver is the near-halt of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping-analytics firm Kpler said only 17 cargo-carrying ships transited the strait on Sunday and Monday, compared with 37 a week earlier. Before the U.S.-Israeli military attack on Iran, about 125 large commercial vessels a day passed through the waterway. Current traffic is a fraction of the prewar level.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/Investing.com\">Investing.com<\/a>, weaker shipping security after the attack has further reduced operators\u2019 willingness to use the route.
