U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures dropped $1.20, or 1.13%, to $104.63 a barrel.

According to Roydad Naft, oil prices declined on Wednesday after reports that extra Saudi crude cargoes were being offered via Oman eased concerns about the scale of Middle East supply disruptions. European diesel prices, meanwhile, hovered near a record high.

Brent crude futures were down 59 cents, or 0.54%, at $108.16 a barrel by 9:26 a.m. GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures fell $1.20, or 1.13%, to $104.63 a barrel.

In the previous session, oil had jumped more than $3 after shipping-industry sources said crude loadings at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea export terminal in Yanbu had stopped and that Riyadh had canceled some deliveries to European customers. That raised fears a disruption on a critical export route could last for weeks.

People familiar with the matter said that after drone attacks damaged the key oil pipeline to the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia is offering more crude loadings to Asian refiners through ship-to-ship transfers near Oman’s port of Sohar.

Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS, said: “News of Saudi exports from the Gulf suggests concerns that the disruption is larger are easing.”

Preliminary shipping data on Wednesday showed visible vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz fell to four on Tuesday from seven the previous day, well below the 10-day average of 18. Before the U.S.-Israel war against Iran began in late February, the waterway handled one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

Macquarie analysts said flows of crude, condensate, and refined products through the Strait of Hormuz have remained resilient despite the regional escalation and may have risen above 7.5 million barrels a day since fighting resumed on August 30. They said the link between developments in the strait and oil flows has weakened.

Citi said in a note that it expects a short-term escalation in the Middle East to keep supporting crude and refined-fuel prices until the Strait of Hormuz is eventually reopened in the fourth quarter of 2026, aided by regional diplomatic efforts.

Diesel tightness persists

Frank Wallbaum, a market analyst at Naga.com, said: “Diesel’s strength reflects a product-specific shortage alongside expensive crude.”

He added: “Europe has lost a substantial share of Middle East diesel and jet-fuel supply, while ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe have disrupted output at several large Russian refineries and forced Moscow to restrict fuel exports.”

European gasoil futures, the diesel benchmark, closed at a record high in the previous session and on Tuesday reached their highest intraday level since April. That underscored tightness in the fuel market as Middle East disruptions constrain crude and product flows.

Last week, the U.S. national average diesel price exceeded $6 a gallon for the first time.

U.S. inventory pressure

Market sources said Tuesday, citing American Petroleum Institute data, that U.S. crude, gasoline, and distillate inventories rose last week.

Crude stocks increased by 7.1 million barrels in the week ended September 11. Analysts in a Reuters poll had expected a draw of about 1.6 million barrels.

Haitong Futures said in a note that the API data showed unexpected builds in gasoline and diesel stocks that have weighed on prices, but that regional inventory increases do not change the underlying tightness in the global crude market.

Brent crude futures fell 59 cents, or 0.54%, to $108.16 a barrel.
