Shipping sources also said crude loading had stopped at Yanbu on the Red Sea after the recent Yemeni attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The East-West line runs about 1,200 kilometers from eastern fields to Yanbu and has capacity of about 5 million to 7 million barrels a day. It was built in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war so Saudi Arabia could bypass the Strait of Hormuz. After the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran, traffic through Hormuz almost stopped and the pipeline became the kingdom\u2019s main export artery.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 10, 2026, the line was hit by several drone attacks. Satellite images show several main pump stations almost completely destroyed. Riyadh halted operations as a precaution. Repairs are estimated at three to six weeks, with only partial use possible in that period.<\/p>\n<p>Both of Saudi Arabia\u2019s export routes are under pressure at once: Hormuz is nearly closed because of the U.S.-Iran war; the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb are under Houthi attack; and the East-West pipeline is down. Saudi output in August fell to about 6.2 million barrels a day, the lowest since the 1990 Gulf War. Exports dropped to about 3 million to 3.2 million barrels a day, the least in at least nine years.<\/p>\n<p>Before the shutdown, about 4 million barrels a day moved through the line to Yanbu \u2014 about 4% of global supply. Industry sources said Yanbu stocks were enough for only five to seven days.<\/p>\n<p>Brent rose on the news. Asian refiners, like European plants, are waiting for clarity on Yanbu loadings.
