RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Brent crude futures fell 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $96.19 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures dropped 45 cents to $91.03 a barrel.<\/p>\n

Oil prices held near six-week highs on Monday as tit-for-tat strikes between the United States and Iran on vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz and other waters kept crude flows from the Middle East constrained.<\/p>\n

Brent crude futures were down 9 cents, or 0.1%, at $96.19 a barrel at 8:22 a.m. GMT, after earlier hitting their highest level since July 24 at $97.93.<\/p>\n

U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude also hovered near a recent six-week high at $91.03 a barrel, down 45 cents.<\/p>\n

Brent rose about 8% last week, while WTI gained nearly 10% after the U.S. and Iran resumed attacks.<\/p>\n

U.S. Central Command said U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, including one off the coast of Kharg Island, near Iran\u2019s main oil export hub.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy said Saturday it targeted three oil tankers traveling unauthorized routes in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as three additional U.S. vessels in other areas.<\/p>\n

Maritime intelligence firm Marisks called the Saturday attacks a \u201cmajor escalation,\u201d adding: \u201cCommercial tankers are now being deliberately used as instruments of reciprocal economic pressure, substantially weakening the previous distinction between military confrontation and commercial shipping.\u201d<\/p>\n

An average of 10 commodity ships transited the Strait of Hormuz per day over the past 10 days, the lowest since May, data from analytics firm Kpler showed on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf tanker traffic begins to slow materially, the market could price in a much larger supply shock. And there are already signs that this is happening,\u201d said Priyanka Sachdeva, head of market insights at Phillip Nova.<\/p>\n

Goldman Sachs said oil prices may rally to as much as $120 a barrel if attacks on shipping increase.<\/p>\n

A restricted zone will be announced outside the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council, said according to state media.<\/p>\n
