RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Brent crude futures rose $1.40, or 1.7%, to $84.95 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained $1.33, or 1.7%, to $79.51 a barrel.<\/p>\n

Oil prices jumped nearly 2% on Monday after Iran insisted that the United States must meet several demands before the Strait of Hormuz can be reopened.<\/p>\n

Brent crude futures were up $1.40, or 1.7%, at $84.95 a barrel by 1218 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose $1.33, or 1.7%, to $79.51.<\/p>\n

Both benchmarks had fallen more than 7% last week on hopes that Iran and Oman were close to a deal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which carried a fifth of the world\u2019s oil and liquefied natural gas before the Middle East conflict that began in late February.<\/p>\n

Iran said it was nearing a final agreement with Oman to define new shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz but repeated that the U.S. must fulfill other conditions, including compensation and an end to sanctions and military threats, before the strategic waterway is reopened.<\/p>\n

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that Iran and the United States are not engaged in talks and that Tehran will not start them while Washington continues to breach an interim deal signed in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough the strait is still essentially closed, oil is currently trading at $80 to $85 per barrel, reflecting hope for a solution in the near term,\u201d SEB Research analysts said in a note.<\/p>\n

In a further threat to supply, Iran-aligned Houthis said they had struck Saudi Aramco\u2019s Jazan refinery on Sunday. The attack came two days after the kingdom signed a defence pact with Sunni Muslim allies Turkey and Pakistan in response to growing regional instability stemming from the U.S.-Israeli war on Shi\u2019ite Iran.<\/p>\n

Separately, UAE oil company ADNOC said on Friday that 15 of its vessels had been attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz since the conflict began.<\/p>\n
