RoydadNaft – <\/a><\/span>\u00a0Brent crude oil futures fell $4.49, or 5.11%, to $83.44 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures dropped $4.90, or 5.79%, to $79.77 a barrel.<\/p>\n

According to Roydad Naft, oil prices plunged more than $4 a barrel on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump refrained from launching a new attack on Iran and instead pushed for a rapid agreement to halt Tehran\u2019s nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Brent crude futures settled $4.49 lower, or 5.11%, at $83.44 a barrel (as of 04:08 GMT), while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude traded $4.90 lower, or 5.79%, at $79.77 a barrel.<\/p>\n

Both contracts had surged more than 20% over the previous month following the resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran and heightened security concerns after attacks on several oil tankers near Oman. The incidents prompted many shipping companies to avoid entering the Persian Gulf to load oil.<\/p>\n

In a sign of easing tensions, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday evening that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries had requested time to finalize an agreement that would lead to the \u201cimmediate, complete and total reopening\u201d of the vital waterway and an \u201cend to the so-called Iranian nuclear threat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at IG, said: \u201cThe main focus is whether this week will be a repeat of last week \u2014 that is, hopes for a deal collapse, Iran hardens its stance and uses its control over the Strait of Hormuz, potentially by attacking a U.S. base or a tanker transiting the waterway.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to shipping data released on Monday, two Saudi oil tankers passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea over the weekend, while traffic through the Strait of Hormuz declined after reports of attacks on vessels. Britain\u2019s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations also reported three further attacks on oil tankers since Saturday.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, OPEC+ approved a production quota increase of approximately 188,000 barrels per day starting in September, completing the unwinding of another layer of voluntary production cuts. Due to disruptions to exports from the Persian Gulf, Russia and Kazakhstan caused by the Iran and Ukraine conflicts, OPEC+\u2019s successive monthly increases throughout most of this year have largely remained on paper and had little impact on the market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brent crude oil futures fell $4.49, or 5.11%, to $83.44 a barrel.
