The United Arab Emirates will continue to supply the world with energy for as long as it needs it, its Minister for Climate Change and Environment Mariam Almheiri said in an exclusive interview with CNBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs long as the world needs oil and gas, we\u2019re going to give it to them,\u201d Almheiri told CNBC\u2019s Hadley Gamble on the sidelines of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz\u2019s visit to the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholz visited the Gulf region over the weekend, focusing on securing new fossil fuel supplies and cutting Germany\u2019s reliance on Russian energy imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, the UAE signed an agreement to deliver liquefied natural gas to Germany, with its first shipment due to arrive by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LNG isn\u2019t a renewable source of energy, but it\u2019s considered a cleaner alternative to oil and coal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UAE is among the world\u2019s largest oil producers, producing an average of 3.2 million barrels of petroleum and liquids a day.
Investing in renewables<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, Almheiri stressed the importance of investing in renewables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to be careful \u2026 because conversations are happening and it\u2019s all about energy, but it\u2019s really important we don\u2019t lose context of economic growth, [and] climate as well within that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the UAE\u2019s investments in renewable energy projects, she said, \u201cIt\u2019s not just about the production \u2026 you\u2019ve got to look at the storage, you\u2019ve got to look at the network, you\u2019ve got to look at the distribution. It\u2019s such a complex network.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really important that economic growth, energy security and climate action must be worked at together.\u201d
She cited the example of Germany, which last year announced its ambitions to phase out coal by 2030, but lawmakers announced earlier this month that the country would burn coal to get through the winter.
Food and water crises<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister said the UAE is facing another great crisis: food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFood is actually just as important as energy because food systems are or contribute to a third of greenhouse gas emissions,\u201d said Almheiri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
