{"id":17074,"date":"2026-05-27T11:46:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T11:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/?p=17074"},"modified":"2026-05-27T11:46:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T11:46:31","slug":"germany-canada-to-sign-major-lng-deal-as-europe-seeks-energy-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/17074\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany, Canada to sign major LNG deal as Europe seeks energy security"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><p><span class=\"pre-content-text\"><a style=\"color: #0038a8;\" href=\"https:\/\/roydadnaft.ir\/English\/\">RoydadNaft &#8211; <\/a><\/span>\u00a0The gas will be shipped from the Ksi Lisims project, a $10 billion floating export facility that has already received regulatory approval<\/p>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"15\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"16\">\n<p data-async=\"\" data-reader-unique-id=\"17\">Canada is set to announce a deal to supply Germany with liquefied natural gas from a planned export facility on the coast of British Columbia, according to people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"20\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"21\">\n<p data-async=\"\" data-reader-unique-id=\"22\">The gas will be shipped from the Ksi Lisims project, a $10 billion floating export facility that has already received regulatory approval, said the people, speaking on condition they not be identified because the matter is still private.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"38\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"39\">\n<p data-async=\"\" data-reader-unique-id=\"40\">The buyer is Germany\u2019s SEFE, the former Gazprom PJSC unit nationalized by the German government after the invasion of Ukraine. The deal is expected to be announced Wednesday by Tim Hodgson, Canada\u2019s minister of energy and natural resources.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"42\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"43\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"44\">Ksi Lisims LNG is backed by Blackstone Inc.-funded Western LNG, as well as Rockies LNG Partners and the Nisga\u2019a Nation, an Indigenous group that owns the development land.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"45\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"46\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"47\">The project has not yet reached a final investment decision to start construction. The investor group is planning a facility capable of producing 12 million metric tons a year of LNG \u2014 making it nearly as large as the first phase of LNG Canada, a Shell PLC-backed project that went into operation last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"48\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"49\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"50\">Officials with SEFE, Western LNG and the Canadian government declined to comment. Representatives for Rockies LNG Partners and the Nisga\u2019a Nation didn\u2019t immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"51\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"52\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"53\">Hodgson, speaking in a recent interview with Bloomberg News, said European nations are actively looking for a reliable supply of gas to replace flows from Russia and the Middle East, which have been disrupted by war.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"56\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"57\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"58\">European countries don\u2019t want to become overly reliant on American gas, Hodgson said \u2014 partly because of trade tensions with the Trump administration but also because they want the security of having a range of suppliers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"83\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"84\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"85\">\u201cWe can be that alternative,\u201d Hodgson said. \u201cWe can be that reliable supplier who will not use energy for coercion.\u201d That could eventually take the form of LNG being shipped via Canada\u2019s east coast or through Hudson Bay in the north, but in the near term, \u201cwe have huge increases in supply coming off the west coast, which are music to their ears.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"86\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"87\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"88\">Asked whether west coast LNG would be shipped to Europe through the Panama Canal, Hodgson said there are multiple options. \u201cSome ships will go through Panama, some will go around, some they\u2019ll just trade\u201d in return for LNG shipments available elsewhere, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"89\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"90\">\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"91\">Ultimately, it makes sense for Canada and Europe to become closer energy partners at a time when global superpowers are looking to use trade as a tool of geopolitical coercion, Hodgson said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section data-reader-unique-id=\"92\">\n<div data-reader-unique-id=\"93\">\n<p data-async=\"\" data-reader-unique-id=\"94\">\u201cThey\u2019re looking around and saying, how do we create energy security?\u201d he said. \u201cWhere can we find a supplier who shares our values?
